The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child is checked by age 7 by an orthodontist. Treatment may not begin at this time, but it is wise to have the child checked at this stage. Some conditions which warrant an early orhtodontic evaluation include:
- Thumbsucking
- Early or late loss of teeth
- Crowded or crooked teeth
- Mouth Breathing
- Biting the roof of the mouth (deep overbite)
- Facial imbalance
Some problems if intercepted early, such as narrow jaws, fingersucking, overbites, cross-bites, underbites, crowded teeth, and protruding ("buck") teeth, may eliminate the need or decrease the treatment time for braces in the future.
By evaluating a patient early, Dr. Slutsky can evaluate the ideal time to begin treatment. There is no charge for an initial consultation.
